Help Us Transform Stuttering Therapy Through Neurotechnology
FluentPlay is developing the first predictive neurofeedback platform for stuttering, combining brain signal detection, machine learning, and engaging therapeutic design. Our mission is simple but powerful: shift speech therapy from reactive correction to proactive prevention, stopping stuttering blocks before they happen.

As we prepare for National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health SBIR Phase I studies, we're building a small team of expert consultants to help shape and validate this breakthrough technology.
EEG / Neuroscience Consultant
Role Summary:
We are seeking a neuroscientist with expertise in motor planning, cortical timing circuits, and EEG signal analysis. You will guide the scientific foundation of our predictive detection model, ensuring our methods align with current neuroscience research.
Responsibilities:
-
Advise on EEG recording protocols, with focus on pre-SMA beta oscillations.
-
Support development of artifact rejection and preprocessing pipelines.
-
Provide insight on feature extraction for beta bursts preceding disfluencies.
-
Contribute to experimental design for Phase I pilot (10–15 participants).
-
Help interpret results and prepare scientific documentation for NSF reporting.
Qualifications:
-
PhD/M.S. (or equivalent experience) in neuroscience, neuroengineering, or related field.
-
Hands-on experience with EEG data collection and preprocessing.
-
Familiarity with motor control, timing networks, or speech neuroscience.
-
Prior consulting or research collaboration experience preferred.
Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Advisor
Role Summary:
We are seeking an SLP with clinical expertise in stuttering. You will help align FluentPlay’s methods with established therapy protocols and ensure our research outcomes are clinically meaningful.
Responsibilities:
-
Advise on speech tasks that elicit repetitions, prolongations, and blocks.
-
Support participant selection and design of fluency outcome measures.
-
Translate prototype outputs into clinically relevant metrics.
-
Review materials to ensure alignment with ethical and therapeutic standards.
Qualifications:
-
MS/PhD in Speech-Language Pathology.
-
Clinical experience working with children or adults who stutter.
-
Knowledge of fluency-shaping and stuttering modification techniques.
-
Familiarity with digital tools for speech therapy is a plus.
Machine Learning Specialist
Role Summary:
We are seeking a consultant in machine learning with experience in real-time biosignal classification. You will help design and validate models capable of predicting stuttering events with low latency.
Responsibilities:
-
Advise on classifier selection (logistic regression, SVM, CNN benchmarking).
-
Ensure inference can be performed in real-time (<150 ms latency).
-
Support feature engineering from EEG, EMG, and mic streams.
-
Collaborate on cross-validation and subject-specific model training.
-
Contribute to NSF deliverables on model performance and feasibility.
Qualifications:
-
Strong background in ML (Python, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch).
-
Experience with time-series and biosignal data.
-
Demonstrated knowledge of latency optimization for real-time systems.
-
Track record of research or applied projects in EEG/biomedical ML a plus.
Game Developer (Phase II Planning)
Role Summary:
We are seeking a Unity (or equivalent engine) developer to shape the Phase II therapeutic gaming experience. While Phase I focuses on neuroscience and feasibility, your role will involve planning for the integration of EEG-driven feedback into engaging, gamified therapy environments.
Responsibilities:
-
Advise on game design mechanics to support fluency training.
-
Explore how EEG-driven cues can be seamlessly integrated into gameplay.
-
Build prototype scenes that demonstrate user engagement potential.
-
Contribute to Phase II roadmap and commercialization strategy.
Qualifications:
-
Proficiency in Unity or comparable platforms.
-
Portfolio demonstrating game mechanics design (preferably educational/therapeutic).
-
Familiarity with real-time input integration (voice or biosignal) is a strong plus.
-
Strong collaboration skills with scientific/clinical teams.
